Drawn from the Japanese words 'takara' (treasure) and 'monogatari' (story), we at Takaramono devote ourselves in uncovering Japan's beautiful and meaningful treasures.

Since our Japanese team members are from Okayama, known for its exceptional Bizen potteries, we specialize in Bizen-yaki. This esteemed pottery technique is part of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan (Rokkoyō).

Bizen-yaki is famous for being entirely unglazed. Artisans use high heat to give Bizen its characteristic rustic look, while making the piece very strong and watertight. They source the high-iron clay from the area, shape their pieces, and fire them in a traditional wood-fired kiln at about 1,200℃ for 10 to 14 days.

Flames dance around each piece, testing its strength and deepening its colors. When the kiln cools and the door is opened, each piece emerges with a character of its own: placement in the kiln, melted pine ashes and straw coverings will create a unique scenery for each piece.

A handful of earth, shaped by human imagination and blessed by fire into permanence. Bizen's toughness is legendary in Japan. Many historical pieces from the 14th century remain entirely intact and still hold water.

Next to Bizen-yaki, we offer other vintage pottery items and textiles, including kimonos, hand-selected by our team members in Japan. By doing so, we hope to give Japanese vintage items a new life in Europe.
